Amy Wigand, RN – Clinic and Birth Center Nurse

Hello beautiful MMC mamas and families! I am beyond grateful I was given this opportunity to
be here and so humbled to help care for families in some of their most intimate and
transformative moments in their lives. I was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, but the
mountains were always calling me and I knew that someday I would end up in beautiful
Colorado. After earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University in 2003, I
began my nursing career in Pediatrics and eventually left MN to explore the Southwest and
work as a traveling nurse. I met my husband (at a dog park) in Arizona and after a few years,
we moved to Colorado with our dog and then 14 month old daughter. In addition to Pediatric
nursing, I also have experience in Public Health, NICU, Well-Baby and Postpartum.

My journey into the birth world really didn’t begin until my first pregnancy. When I found out I
was pregnant, I made an initial prenatal appointment at an OB office and quickly realized that I
was looking for something different in my prenatal care. The appointment felt so rushed and so
impersonal. I began researching birth centers and found a freestanding birth center in Phoenix. I
ultimately ended up being transferred to a local hospital in labor, but that is what ignited my
ultimate love and passion for midwifery-led care. The midwifery model of care most closely
aligns with my own values of using evidence-based care that is holistic and compassionate and
empowering women to trust their bodies. I fiercely believe in the power of a woman’s mind,
body, and soul and I am continually amazed and inspired by your strength.

My husband and I have three daughters (all caught by midwives) and when I am not shuffling
between gymnastics or ballet, you can find me seeking solace in nature. I love to hike, camp,
kayak, and just generally explore nature. I also love natural and alternative health care, cooking,
caring for plants, loving on my rescue dog, traveling, interior design, and photography. I am also
very passionate about breastfeeding and earned my IBCLC in 2013.

Mountain Midwifery feels like home to me and I hope you feel the same.
