The Midwife's Garden is in its second trimester

The bees, worms, sunshine, and strong May showers have been working their plant magic in the Midwife's Garden.

The elderberry bush is sassy and full, the strawberry plants have been in sweet blossom for about six weeks, and the red raspberry plants are precocious and prolific:

We've been admiring the cheery blooms in our hanging baskets as well.

Plans for 2nd Birth Center are "on hold"

Mountain Midwifery Center, Inc. would like to inform you that plans for a second birth center are currently on hold.  Starting a second birth center, even when one already exists in the same model, requires many resources. It is a very time intensive, expensive, and logistically challenging process.   We want to be certain that all of the resources needed by another birth center are in place before we move forward toward opening a second location in order to make that much more of a sustainable option for the community.

Why upfront billing?

This Denver Post article, called "Losing patience with paperwork" in the print version, is a good behind-the-reception desk look the complexities faciing small practices like ours. Reading about the stresses on the Walsenburg clinic just about made me hyperventilate thinking aobut my own personal stacks of paperwork waiting for me the next morning.

MMC Open House for RNs, CNMs, CPM/RMs, Doulas, & Physicians

This Sunday, March 13 from 1pm - 3pm Mountain Midwifery Center is hosting an open-house for professionals in the community that serve maternity clients.

Do you have Anthem CO or Anthem CA? Help MMC become in-network!

Are you using an Anthem of Colorado or Anthem of California insurance plan? Please act to help MMC land a BCBS contract.
If our patients lived in California, they could easily access the Best Start Birth Center in San Diego, CA (http://www.beststartbirthcenter.com/) as an in-network provider and facility. They should be able to access the same type of provider and services here in Colorado at Mountain Midwifery Center!

Shonishin in The Midwife's Garden

The Midwife's Garden is really coming together as "A Place Where Families Blossom." To help our families blossom even more, Tricia Good (LAc) and Linda Raford (CNM, LAc) will be offering shonishin for children (a needle-LESS technique) around the full moon of each month. The $20 suggested fee will be sent in its entirety to Yayasan Bumi Sehat (‘Healthy Mother Earth’) Foundation that serves two non-profit birthing centers and family health clinics in Indonesia.

Medicaid no longer accepted

It's a tough decision, but MMC has decided to stop accepting Medicaid. Of course, a decision with this magnitude has its own complexity. Here are the main points:
  • EXCEPTION: We will continue maternity care & Medicaid billing for Pregnancies in 3rd trimester (28th week on or before January 31, 2011 ).
