Two weeks ago Laura Thielke, one of our midwives, had baby girl Tegan in the log room. She weighed 8 pounds and 8 ounces! Her older brother and sister are thrilled about her arrival. You can check out the birth of Tegan's older sister, Willow, on the homepage of our website or YouTube. We love you Mama Laura and are so happy for your growing family :)
Last week Sarah Stone, one of our midwives, had baby boy William in the blue room. He weighed 8 pounds and 13 ounces - wow! And he's been doing nothing but getting bigger and bigger... so cute! We love you Mama Sarah and are so happy for your growing family :)
We think Sarah looks like she could be the Greek Goddess of Birth in this photo!
We're hiring! Please email your cover letter and resume to Colleen (colleen@mountainmidwifery.com) by Friday, May 11 if you're interested in working at our front desk (details below).
Here in Colorado, many organizations think the HMO model in Minnesota is the panacea to our state's rising health care costs and underperfoming outcomes. In MN, they know different. Yay! Effective April 1, 2012, Mountain Midwifery Center is now contracted with Anthem BCBS of Colorado! This is great news for our many patients who have a Blue Cross Blue Shield of some kind (Anthem or out-of-state). We have both facility and provider contracts.
Kevin Mohatt, a Denver-area photojournalist, wrote a touching op-ed piece for The Denver Post about the frustration and victimization so many parents experience because U.S. hospitals have no regard for patient preferences and the health benefits of natural birth. Like me, Kevin feels we all need to wake-up to the real damage done.
As of right now, we have reached our capacity for September, so we are unable to accept any additional new clients with a due date in that month. If you're still interested in potentially becoming our patient and have a September due date, please come to an orientation. Once you've attended an orientation, you can call us and we would be happy to put you on our wait-list. If we have an opening, then we'll give you a call! Additionally, we can give you the names of other local practices that we can refer you to for maternity care.
